Chocolate Pink Gift Basket

Chocolate is an irresistible treat for many people.  Whether in the liquid or solid form, it can be a comforting indulgence when you need a quick pick me up.  There are various types of chocolate: unsweetened, bittersweet, semisweet, sweet, milk, and white chocolate.  Last week I attended an event where they even had a chocolate fountain filled with blue chocolate.  I am more of a chocolate purest and decided not to try the blue.  It just didn't appeal to me.  The following are a few facts that you might find interesting about this delectable treat.

Five Chocolate Facts
  1. Cocoa is a tree, native to South America, whose seeds are the source of cocoa and chocolate.
  2. In 1875, Daniel Peter and Henri Nestle added condensed milk to solid chocolate, creating a milk chocolate bar.
  3. 1896, the recipe for chocolate brownies was intorduced in the Fannie Farmer Cookbook.
  4. By 1907, Milton Hershey's factory was producing close to 33 million kisses per day.  They are one of the most popular chocolate candies sold.
  5. The original 3 Musketeers Bar of the 1930's had three parts: chocolate, vanilla and strawberry.  It became all chocolate in the 1940's and the formula remains the same to this day.
Chocolate Pink Gift Basket

The two colors of pink and brown looked so delicious together.  I was inspired to create this gift basket named "Chocolate Pink" after putting the box of cookies and tea in the basket The dark brown wood basket is filled with Raspberry Tea Cookies, Sparkling Apple-Pomegranate Cider, Peppermint Cane Tea, Chocolate Caramel Chews, Chocolate Raspberry Candy Bar, Taffy Apple Scented Candle Tin, Pink and Brown Beverage Napkins.  The basket is complimented with a large Pink Poinsettia Flower Spray, Chocolate and Pink Hand-tied Bow.  Gift Dimensions: 11 1/4 x 23 Wrapped.

Licorice Lore

I recently read some interesting information.  It made me wonder if this is fact or fiction?  A short story was printed on the back of a bag of candy that I included in one of my Baskets by Consuela holiday gift basket designs.  The Hershey Company has several candy divisions, one of which is Young & Smylie Licorice.  Years ago there were only a few flavors of licorice but today there are many.  My favorite has always been strawberry but the one I added to the gift basket is Peach Mango flavored.  I chose the candy not only because it tastes good but also because it added to the overall theme.  The color tones in the basket are a mix of soft yellow, peach and brown.  Some of the flavors are orange, peach and butterscotch.  There is also a Peach flavored syrup that can be added to beverages.  It's a great gift basket to give to anyone visiting Georgia for the first time or for anyone who loves the Peach state's tasty treats.  The Thanksgiving dinner hostess can add this Thankful Bounty gift basket design seen here to her buffet table.

This is what the package says:

Licorice Lore

"The Warriors of Alexander the Great and the Roman Empire believed that licorice possessed beneficial properties.  These ancient armies would use licorice to satisfy their thirst while on long marches.  In modern warfare, the U.S. Army Air Corps included licorice drops in the in-flight rations known as "Air Crew Lunches" for bombers during World War II so that the crew could enjoy the candy on their long flights."

One of the joys I get from designing gift baskets is gaining knowledge.  I did some further reading on the subject of licorice.  There are many other well-documented benefits associated to the licorice root.  After reading many other articles, I decided to limit my writing only to the story on the back of the candy bag.  Whether this is a fact or fable, I enjoyed the tale.  I hope you did as well.

No Tricks...Just Fall Treats

Halloween has never been one of my favorite days. Ghosts, goblins and all things ghoulish are not my ideas of fun. I would much rather enjoy a day that won't remind me of scary things. Although, I'm not someone who is fascinated with this day, I'm sure there are many people who do enjoy being tricked or scared out of their pants. That's why Baskets by Consuela doesn't have any tricks, just treats for you or someone you care about treating this Halloween weekend.

Everyday should be a day that we treat all the people in our lives to something. Even if it's something as simple as a phone call to see how they're doing, an email to say "hello" or a handwritten note sent in the mail. Wouldn't it be nice to receive something from the postman other than bills and junk mail? I know how excited I get when I see a piece of mail from a dear friend or relative that they have taken the time to hand write to me. The same can be true when you receive an unexpected package. So whether or not you send something to them on Halloween, take the time to just treat someone to something, no matter how big or small.

A surprise gift basket from Baskets by Consuela will be filled with just treats, no tricks. Have a fun day!

The Real Housewives of Atlanta Meets Baskets by Consuela

The Real Housewives of Atlanta
Meets Owner of Baskets by Consuela

This past weekend I attended The Female Success Factor forum in Atlanta. I met one of the stars of The Real Housewives of Atlanta television show, Ms. NeNe Leakes. She is on a tour to promote her new book.

NeNe shared with the audience how she landed the part on the show. She also spoke about some of the challenges she faced as a young mother while raising her oldest son. I found NeNe to be warm, funny and engaging. When I stood next to her to take this photo, she quipped "you're so tiny." My daughter also says that to me whenever I stand next to her. Next time I meet someone taller than me I think I'll stand on a box.

The Atlanta show's ratings are very high compared to the other Housewives series. I'm sure much of its popularity is due to NeNe's quick retorts and to the point remarks. She can certainly hold her own. Let's watch tonight's reunion episode to see what's brewing. No doubt it will return for future episodes. Hopefully, they will have some events that will require gift baskets so Baskets by Consuela can make a guest appearance. I would love to show them how "we think outside the basket." NeNe, Sheree, Kim, Kandi, Dwight....Housewives call me!

A Fall Garden

Summer is beginning to leave us or has already left us according to the calender. The Fall is here. Time to prune those plants that were thriving all summer. Fertilize, weed and plant flowers that will add a change of scenery to our gardens. The colors of Fall are so vibrant against bluer skies that come along this time of year.

I have to admit that my planting skills are more suited to indoor gardening than outdoor. I don't particularly like digging up dirt and perhaps coming across worms or insects. If I could I would have a garden filled with flowers all year round. Maybe at some point, I'll be able to hire a gardener that will do all that for me. In the meantime, I'll stick to houseplants.

This Gardener's Delight gift basket is ideal for anyone who has been cutting grass, pruning or mulching. A wonderful assortment of bath products to soothe aching muscles. It has an almanac that can be used as a reference guide for what to plant and at what time of year to plant them.

Happy Gardening,
