Local Shopping and Dining in Fairburn, GA

One of the things I enjoy doing is discovering new things.  I love to explore.  Whether it's searching for a bargain or finding something new and tasty to eat.  Whenever I watch Guy Fieri on the Food Network's Diners, Drive Ins and Dives he makes me want to take more road trips.  Since I can't get in my car and drive all over the country like he does, I decided to check out more local businesses in my town.

Last week I stopped by Spicy Sugar, Jernigan's Gifts and Taqueria to speak with the owners.  They are all located on or near Broad Street in Fairburn, GA.  Each sells a different product but they all service the surrounding community with a unique blend of products and services.  They were all gracious enough to spend a few minutes with me while I queried them about their businesses.  Here goes.

Spicy Sugar is a small accessories boutique specializing in handbags, jewelry and ready to wear.  Natasha Parks is the owner and has a background in fashion.  She opened this shop in November, 2009 after noticing there was a need in the area for a store that offers unique ladies merchandise.  Initially she sold only handbags.  Due to customer demand she began offering apparel, jewelry and other items.

She is hosting a special event scheduled for Saturday, April 17 featuring a sidewalk sale, music and giveaways for attendees.  Besides the brick and mortar storefront you can find Spicy Sugar on Facebook, Twitter and MySpace.

Jernigan's Unique Gifts has been in operation since 1985.  Julie White and her family own and operate this large gift shop.  Her dad first opened Jernigan's Hardware.  The ladies in the family however wanted to sell more fun merchandise.  Hence, the development of Jernigan's Unique Gifts.  This store is filled with a unique variety of merchandise. You can find items for your home, garden as well as gift items for every occasion.  If you like shopping in an atmosphere where the staff can give you personalized attention, you're sure to enjoy this place.

Although they do not have a website they are in the process of developing a fan page on Facebook.  The store is located on the corner of West Campbellton Street and West Broad Street in Fairburn.

Taqueria Mexican Restaurant offers an authentic Mexican food menu cooked daily.  Taqueria's owner, Armando Jimenez said he wanted to provide a different variety in food choices for the area.  He has been in operation for the past three and a half years.

They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Hours of operation are from 6:00 a.m. till 10:30 p.m.  This was actually my second visit.  A business associate and I stopped in one evening.  Armando brewed us a fresh pot of coffee while we sat and talked.  The coffee was delicious and the service was great.  There is a laid back feel to dining there and a friendly atmosphere too.

I hope you'll explore these three places when you're looking for something new to wear, give or eat.  Be sure to let them know that Baskets by Consuela sent you.  Enjoy!
